Phish, kings of the jam-arena, is set to drop their 16th studio album, Evolve, on July 12, courtesy of ATO Records/JEMP Records. The news comes just ahead of their highly anticipated run at The Sphere in Las Vegas, which will also be the venue's first live streaming event. (That shit’s gonna be bonkers)

Evolve offers a glimpse into Phish's illustrious musical career, one that spans four decades (and counting) and that has, no-doubt, evolved significantly since their inception.

Say what you will about their new material (and we know you will), but each album has been a reflection of the band's own state in that particular period in time. There is no attempt to recreate (or regurgitate) something done in the past. This newest effort will no doubt be the same.

Produced by seasoned collaborators Bryce Goggin and Vance Powell, the album was recorded earlier this year in Vermont. Recent photos of the band at The Barn have offered clues to the sessions.

Details about the album are scarce thus far, but given the relational history of Phish albums and live song performance, one might guess a few tunes that could occupy the track listing. In addition to the newly released single—the album's title track, "Evolve"—one might surmise that songs like, "Oblivion," "Monsters," "Broken Into Pieces" or "The Well" might make the final cut. It wouldn't be entirely uncommon to feature reimagined adaptations of "Life Saving Gun" or "Hey Stranger," either—songs previously recorded that have found their way into the live Phish catalogue.
