For over a century, the Mishawaka Amphitheatre has stood as a beloved icon nestled amidst the breathtaking Colorado Rockies. Its stage has served as host to a diverse array of musical artists; from local favorites to living legends. Its picturesque riverside location has created an unparalleled atmosphere for concertgoers, delivering performances and photo-ops worthy of a lifetime of memories. More than simply a concert venue, The Mish has an air of magic and timelessness, allowing it to become a cherished gathering place for those who have experienced its wonder over the years.

Today, it has been announced that The Mish will undergo some serious changes.

The Mish Evolves: A New Chapter for a Colorado Favorite

The Mishawaka Amphitheatre, in a partnership with Riverside Colorado, is set to become a true destination venue, complete with new amenities that will appear a far cry from those we typically associate with The Mish. With this new leisure comes a partnership with music mega-corp Live Nation, allowing for greater diversity in musical acts and visiting fanbase.

But like most things in Colorado, the upgrades will come at a cost—and not just to the venue operators.

While the questionable camping was somewhat problematic, and traversing the grounds nearby had its share of safety concerns, we can’t help but think that our favorite hidden gem is losing its charm.

Surely, the new version will be magnificent. With its luxury camping, cabins and tiny homes, full-service restaurant, and expanded artist roster, there’s no doubt that The Mish will impress a new generation, creating cherished memories and a one-of-a-kind experience. But I can’t help but think that what once felt local, unique, and exclusive is now going to feel corporate, cold and less of a rarity— even amidst the surrounding beauty.

Sure, there was a bit of grit to the ol’ Mish, but that’s what gave it character. Historically a champion of the local music community, one wonders if future Colorado bands will be afforded the same opportunities to perform. Given their track record, concerns arise regarding the varied contracts that come with Live Nation; from artist roster to beer selection. From cash to cashless payment. From reasonable prices to… well, you get it.

Live Nation's business model often involves higher ticket costs, and the increased demand for shows at the upgraded venue could also contribute to price hikes. To be fair, this is purely speculation, as we have no insight as to whether or not The Mishawaka will prioritize maintaining affordable ticket prices to preserve its local charm and community focus. But history has a way…

Anyways, congratulations are in order for Mishawaka owner Dani Grant, who we know to be a kind, caring, and community-forward individual. She has worked tirelessly to make The Mishawaka Amphitheatre what it is today and has given countless artists opportunities that they won’t soon forget. If The Mish as we’ve come to know it is indeed headed out to pasture, then we’re grateful for the memories and bittersweet in our hearts as we anticipate what the future holds.
