Following a Super Tuesday in which he claimed four states, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders name-dropped fellow Vermonter Jon Fishman and Phish, calling the jam band "one of the great bands in this country."
"Let me thank, I guess, one of Vermont's heroes who is now transplanted, Jon Fishman," Sanders said. "Jon and Phish have made New England proud. They are one of the great bands and have been one of the great bands in this country."
Fishman has long supported Senator Sanders, having watched him win grass-root elections for the last thirty-two years. Fishman moved to Burlington, VT the year Sanders became mayor, and has since watched and campaigned for the various positions of the now U.S. Presidential candidate.
In addition to joining Kenya Hall Band on drums and speaking to the crowd on Sanders's behalf, Fishman released a video detailing why he's "feeling the Bern". You can check out the video below:
And check out this clip from 2006 in which Fishman is joined by members of then broken-up Phish—Mike Gordon and Page McConnell. Back in '06, Sanders was running for the U.S. Senate. The rhetoric of the issues and the candidate are consistent with today's message. However, the stakes are now for the top job in the world.
