It's Monday Night — Where The Ladies At?!

Quixote's True Blue truer and bluer than ever

Admittedly, we haven’t been to Quixote's True Blue in quite some time — let alone on a Monday ladies' night.

When Joey Porter's Vital Organ announced it would no longer be hosting the weekly spectacle, we were kinda bummed. Kinda really bummed. Aspects of Vital Organ are more appealing to this contributor than even that of The Motet, specifically the drawn-out and explorative funk displayed on the regularly utmost of mundane days of the week. Vital Organ brought an edge to an all-too predictable and listless weekday, and we figured replacing that edge would be too great a feat.

We were wrong. We were very wrong…

As Mondays turn out, it's good here at Quixote's. Actually, it's really good. Jalbatross, Vital Organ's replacement, features Ryan Jalbert (also of The Motet, guitar) as leader to a band stacked with talent. Combine veteran Stephen Thurston — taking an impressive command of the keyboards — with bassist Paul McDaniel and drummer Jonny Jyemo and you've got a very tasty Monday sundae.

From the first tune, MSMW's "Little Walter Rides Again" to the night's closing tune, Toto's "Rosanna", Jalbatross had the crowd's undivided attention (an increasingly rare accomplishment these days).

The spirits of music and freedom are alive and well at Quixote's. Alive and well are well and good... but why not thrive when the moment is yours?! Let's thrive, because the moment is ours. There is no time like the present and no present like the one at hand (parallel universes, and... stuff?). From the get-go, Jalbatross was tight. Polished. Experienced. Professional. The musical task was kept where it what is meant to be.

The task at hand? To inform the people, sonically. Remembering that good people interact with good vibrations. Vibrations are key. We must utilize them. After all, they are up there for the taking! There is a sense that you can do no wrong. Without vibrating, we are useless. Fun is had inside and out at Quixote's.

Grow a beard and get to being weird.

One has its place while the other was always meant to be. Allow yourself the freedom to thrive, not just to live. Some music reminds you of life, while the other creates it. No person can match a self-realization.. the personal touch from an avatar of yourself. Keep it classy. Keep it real. Everything is either a truth or a lie and your expertise is yours to experiment with. I forgot where I was going with all this…

In short, CHECK OUT JALBATROSS MONDAY'S AT QUIXOTE'S TRUE BLUE!
