Electric Beethoven began as a Reed Mathis solo endeavor with the intention of recording Beethoven's 3rd and 6th Symphonies as trios for each movement. The resulting album, 2016’s Beathoven features Page McConnell, Mike Gordon, Joe Russo, Marco Benevento, Stanton Moore and Robert Walter, among others. The first incarnation of the touring band, Electric Beethoven, included Jay Lane on drums, and throughout 2016 and 2017 had special guests including Holly Bowling, Aron Magner of Disco Biscuits, String Cheese Incident’s Jason Hann and more.
The latest incarnation features Reed Mathis (Golden Gate Wingmen, Tea Leaf Green, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, Billy & the Kids, Rhythm Devils), Todd Stoops (RAQ, Fellowship of the Wing), Clay Welch (Go By Ocean), and Josh Raymer (Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey). The band is in the process of releasing Beethoven's "greatest hits" one at a time on the second Tuesday of every month in 2019. So far, they've released "The Fifth," "For Elise" and now, "The Ninth" (aka "Ode to Joy") -- all available on Spotify and iTunes.
